PUBLICATIONS



I have produced a large number of in-house programs, reports and manuals for Clients and previous employers. I have presented at and been published in international safety conferences and proceedings. I have lectured at the Technical University of Nova Scotia (now DalTech) and at undergraduate classes in Dalhousie University. Some of my formal research work has been published internationally by the Government of Canada within PERD (Panel on Energy Research and Development). Examples can be provided upon request.

AWARDS RECEIVED



Canadian Petroleum Association Award of Merit for:
  1. service as Chairman of the East Coast Operators' Safety Committee for two consecutive terms,

  2. researching/co-authoring the Industry's "Report of the Offshore Safety Task Force", following the loss of the Ocean Ranger, and

  3. completing successfully the task of Project Manager, East Coast Offshore Evacuation Research Project, resulting in the development of the Preferred Orientation and Displacement (PrOD) Lifeboat Launching System, as well as an innovative lifeboat recovery technology. These are in use within the Hibernia and the Terra Nova offshore development projects. PrOD is also equipped on modile offshore drilling units conducting expoloration drilling programs in Newfoundland waters.
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES



I have maintained my professional firefighting and medical-response skills within the "volunteer-professional" component of the Halifax Regional Municipality Fire and Emergency Service. Working at Station 8 (Bedford), I have been a Fire Lieutenant and was promoted to Fire Captain by HRM.

I have responded as a fire suppression officer, rescue and extrication officer and Medical First Responder (as an Automated External Defibrillator Attendant). I now support the fire service in a civilian training advisor role.
